Team chat
Every team has a team chat: a single running conversation for the roster, inside Messages. It replaced the old per-game message board — everything that was posted there is still here, tagged with the game it was about.
Who can do this
Section titled “Who can do this”Every active coach, captain and player on the team. Subs and observers aren’t part of it. Your organization’s admins (and site admins) can read it and remove a message, but never post; league admins can’t see it.
- Click Messages in the navbar. Your team’s chat is listed as a conversation labelled Team chat — it’s there even before anyone has posted.
- On a phone, Messages is also one tap away in the bar at the bottom of the screen, so you can jump into the team chat from anywhere — a game page included.
- Type and hit Enter (Shift+Enter for a new line). Add a photo with 📷, a GIF with GIF, or an emoji from the desktop picker.
- Long-press or hover a message to react, edit your own (within 15 minutes) or delete it, or Report someone else’s to your league admins. Coaches and captains can Remove any message.
- Reply opens a side conversation — a thread — under that message instead of quoting it in the main chat. You’re taken to the thread’s own screen with a Follow/Unfollow button in the header; replying or starting a thread follows it automatically. Back in the room, the message shows the latest reply or two, who’s replied, and a View all N replies link back into the thread.
- Tap ℹ︎ in the header to see who’s in the room, grouped by coaches & captains and players, and to snooze a chatty teammate or the whole team.
- Coaches and captains can pin an important message (field change, arrival time) — long-press or hover it and choose Pin. Up to 3 pinned messages show as chips right under the header; tap a chip to jump straight to that message, or tap the ✕ on it to unpin. Anyone in the room can see the pins; only coaches and captains can add or remove one.
Good to know
Section titled “Good to know”- Everyone in the room is notified of every top-level message — bell, plus push if you have it turned on. Chat never sends email — if you’re not on push, the bell and the unread badge are where you’ll see it. A burst of several messages close together arrives as one push about 90 seconds later instead of one per message — and if you’ve already opened the chat and read them by then, you won’t get a push for them at all. Only people following a thread are notified about its replies — the room isn’t (replies get the same 90-second grouping). Use Mute on the thread (1 h, 8 h, until tomorrow, or until you turn it back on) to quiet it; unread counts still update.
- Opening a room with unread messages takes you to a “New messages” line, scrolled to where you left off, instead of always dropping you at the very bottom. A “Jump to latest” button stays visible until you scroll all the way down, so you can skip ahead to the newest message any time.
- Thread unread is separate from the room’s. Reading the main chat doesn’t mark a thread’s replies read, and reading a thread doesn’t touch the room. Look for “N new replies” under a message with an active thread, and next to a conversation in your inbox list, for replies you haven’t seen yet in threads you follow. (There’s no “New messages” line inside a thread itself — the “N new replies” count already tells you what’s unread there.)
- Coaches and captains can switch team chat off under Team Config → Team Chat. The conversation goes read-only (“Team chat is off for this team”) — the history stays, and it picks up where it left off when switched back on.
- Old message-board posts are here. Each one keeps its author, time and the game it was about.
- Notification settings for all of chat — push on or off, and everything you’ve snoozed — live under Profile → Notifications → Chat.
