Rulebooks
Organizations can publish a rulebook per sport — a page of league rules players can pull up from their dashboard, the season landing page, or a game. Write it once as markdown, assign it to a season, and every player on that season’s teams gets a link to it. Edit the rulebook later and every season using it updates instantly.
Who can do this
Section titled “Who can do this”Site admins and organization admins. There’s no rulebook at all until an admin creates one — entirely opt-in, and a season with no rulebook assigned shows no rules links anywhere.
- Open Organization → Registration → Rulebooks in the admin sidebar (or click Open on the Organizations list), or use the Rulebooks card on your org’s Portal settings page.
- Click New rulebook. Give it a name (e.g. “2026 Kickball Rules”), pick the sport it applies to, and paste or type your rules into the content box as markdown.
- Use
#for major sections (Game, Teams, Pitching, …) and##for sub-sections underneath them — these become the clickable table of contents on the player-facing page. Everything else — plain text,-bullets, numbered lists — renders normally. - Click Preview to see exactly what players will see, rendered the same way the public page renders it.
- Click Create rulebook.
- To make this the automatic choice for every new season of that sport, scroll to Per-sport defaults, pick your rulebook from the dropdown next to the matching sport, and click Save. From then on, a newly created season of that sport picks up this rulebook automatically — you won’t have to assign it by hand each time.
- To assign a rulebook to a season that already exists (or to override the default for one season), open that season’s Registration tab, find the Public Listing card, and pick a rulebook from the Rulebook dropdown. Choose “None” to clear it.
Editing ripples everywhere
Section titled “Editing ripples everywhere”A rulebook isn’t copied into each season — every season just points at the rulebook row. That means editing a rulebook’s content (fix a typo, add a rule mid-season, adjust the mercy rule) instantly updates the page every assigned season’s players see, with nothing else to touch. There’s no version history and no separate “publish” step — saving is publishing.
Where players see it
Section titled “Where players see it”Once a season has a rulebook assigned, a “rules” link shows up in four places automatically: the season’s public registration landing page, its card on your organization’s registration portal, near the top of a player’s dashboard (if they’re on a team in that season), and on the game page itself. See Finding your league’s rules for what that looks like from a player’s side.
Good to know
Section titled “Good to know”- A rulebook belongs to exactly one sport. If your organization runs both softball and kickball, you’ll create separate rulebooks for each — a kickball rulebook never defaults onto a softball season.
- You can’t delete a rulebook that’s still assigned to any season — unassign it from those seasons’ Public Listing card first. The delete button tells you how many seasons are using it.
- The per-sport default only affects newly created seasons (or a season that gains its first league of that sport). It never overwrites a rulebook a season already has — so re-saving the default for a sport doesn’t retroactively change seasons you’ve already assigned by hand.
- The content box is markdown, not a rich-text editor — headings, bullets, bold text, and tables all work, but there’s no image upload.
